Operated by Harlequin Chesterfield Sofa Ltd, SLW Chesterfields hand-builds leather sofas, chairs, tables, home accessories, patchwork furniture, leathers, beanbags, footstools, and storage boxes at our own workshop. This page sets out exactly what our warranty covers for each product category, what it doesn't cover, how to make a claim, and how it sits alongside your UK statutory rights — before you buy.
Email Us About a Warranty Claim Call +44 07947 700380This warranty is given directly by Harlequin Chesterfield Sofa Ltd, trading as SLW Chesterfields, as the manufacturer and retailer of every sofa, chair, table, patchwork piece, footstool, beanbag, and storage box we sell. Because we design and build each item ourselves at our workshop in Bury, there is no separate third-party manufacturer warranty to chase — you deal with us directly, start to finish.
This warranty applies to furniture purchased by individual consumers for domestic, residential use and delivered to an address within the United Kingdom. If you're ordering as a hotel, bar, pub, or restaurant, please see Section 09, since commercial furniture is used far more intensively than a domestic piece and is covered under separate, individually agreed terms.
Leather hides and swatches purchased on their own — without being made into a finished piece of furniture — are a raw material rather than a manufactured product, so they are covered by the dispatch-quality guarantee in Section 03 rather than the multi-year furniture warranty described elsewhere on this page. Every warranty right described here is provided in addition to, and does not reduce, your statutory rights under UK consumer law, explained fully in Section 10.
Every piece leaving our workshop is inspected before dispatch. If a genuine manufacturing fault appears after delivery — something wrong with the materials or workmanship we used to build it, rather than damage caused afterwards — we will put it right at our cost, for the period that applies to that part of the piece.
Failure of the internal timber frame or joints under normal domestic use — such as a joint working loose or a leg fixing failing — where the cause is how the frame was built rather than misuse or an accident.
Seams that come apart, stitching that fails, or leather that splits or peels because of how it was tanned or applied during construction — not the natural grain, markings, or gradual softening that genuine leather is expected to show over time.
Cushion fillings, foam, springs, and webbing that collapse or lose their shape well beyond what normal use over the cover period would cause, due to a fault in the filling or foundation itself rather than ordinary settling.
Cover periods vary by category. Because a Chesterfield frame, a leather cushion cover, and a beanbag filling wear differently, we don't apply one blanket warranty length to every part of every product. Section 03 sets out, category by category, exactly how long each element of your furniture is covered.
All cover periods run from the date your furniture is delivered to you and apply to the original purchaser only. Custom leather choices and Harlequin Patchwork Collection pieces carry exactly the same warranty as standard-leather items — bespoke specification affects your right to cancel for a change of mind (see our Cancellation Policy), not your warranty cover.

Home accessories sold in fixed, ready-made colours follow the same cover as the equivalent bespoke item in their category — a warranty period never depends on whether you chose a standard or custom leather, only on which part of the furniture is affected and which category it belongs to.
To keep this warranty genuinely useful, we're specific about what falls outside it, rather than leaving that to be decided when you make a claim.
Our Vintage, Antique, Old English, and Pastel leathers are genuine hides, not printed vinyl. Grain variation, natural scars, wrinkles, and the deepening or softening of colour over time are intended features of real leather, not manufacturing defects.
Gradual fading from sunlight, cracking from heat sources such as radiators or underfloor heating, and the ordinary softening of cushions and leather with years of everyday use fall outside the warranty, in the same way they would for any well-used piece of furniture.
Spills, cuts, burns, pet damage, staining, damage from moving or assembling the item incorrectly, or use of cleaning products other than those in our care guide (Section 08) are not covered.
Items altered, re-covered, or repaired by anyone other than SLW Chesterfields without our written agreement, and domestic furniture subsequently used for commercial, rental, or contract purposes, fall outside this warranty.
This warranty never limits your statutory rights. Even where something falls outside the categories above, you may still have a separate right to a repair, replacement, price reduction, or refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 if the item was faulty, not of satisfactory quality, or not as described when it was delivered. See Section 10.
Making a claim is a straightforward, four-step process — there's no online portal to navigate and no automated case number, just a direct conversation with the people who built your furniture.
Email or call with your order number, the item concerned, and a description of the issue.
Clear photos of the affected area help us assess the fault quickly, often without a home visit.
We confirm in writing within 5 business days whether the issue is covered, and may arrange an inspection for large furniture.
We agree a repair, replacement part, or other remedy with you, as explained in Section 06.
You can reach us by email at slwchesterfields@icloud.com, by phone on +44 07947 700380 during business hours, or in writing to 169 Tottington Road, Bolton, England, BL2 4DF. Please keep your order confirmation, as we'll ask for your order number and delivery date to locate your purchase and confirm the applicable cover period.
Where a genuine manufacturing fault is confirmed, our usual remedy is to repair the piece, either on-site for larger furniture or by collecting it and returning it to our Bury workshop, at no cost to you.
For issues affecting a specific component — a cushion filling, a leather panel, a leg, or a zip, for example — we will usually supply and fit a replacement part rather than replace the whole item.
If a fault can't reasonably be repaired, or a repair hasn't resolved it within a reasonable time, we will offer a replacement item or, where that isn't practical, a fair refund reflecting the age and use of the piece.
Where a claim falls within the cover periods in Section 03 and isn't affected by an exclusion in Section 04, repair labour, replacement parts, and the cost of collecting and returning your furniture for warranty work are covered by us in full — you won't be asked to pay anything.
If, after inspection, an issue turns out to result from wear and tear, accidental damage, or another exclusion, we will explain why in writing and provide a clear, itemised quote for a chargeable repair before any work begins. You're always free to decline a chargeable repair.
No hidden assessment fees. We never charge you simply to inspect or assess a warranty claim, whether or not the claim is ultimately approved.
Simple, regular care keeps your leather looking its best and helps ensure any future claim is straightforward to assess. A printed care guide is included with every delivery.
Keep leather at least 30cm from radiators, open fires, and underfloor heating, and out of continuous direct sunlight, to prevent premature drying and fading.
Dust and wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth weekly, and blot spills immediately rather than rubbing them into the leather.
Use only a proprietary leather cleaner and conditioner suitable for aniline or semi-aniline leather, as detailed in your care guide — avoid household cleaning sprays and baby wipes.
Plump and rotate loose cushions regularly, and avoid sitting on arms or backrests, to help fillings and stitching wear evenly.
Following the care guide doesn't affect your statutory rights, and a missed cleaning date on its own won't invalidate a genuine warranty claim. Where damage clearly results from not following the recommended care — for example, using an unsuitable cleaning product that has damaged the leather — we'll explain this to you clearly, with evidence, before declining a claim on that basis.
We regularly supply hotels, bars, pubs, and restaurants with bespoke banquette seating and fitted leather furniture. Because commercial furniture is used far more intensively, and by many more people, than a domestic sofa or chair, it doesn't wear the same way — so we don't apply our standard consumer cover periods to it automatically.
Warranty duration, coverage, and any excluded uses for trade and hospitality projects are set out in writing in your quotation or order confirmation before you commit, reflecting the specific installation, materials, and expected footfall.
Whatever cover period is agreed, we apply the same clear communication, honest assessment, and written confirmation to every trade claim that we apply to consumer claims under this policy.
This warranty is a promise we make on top of the law, not a replacement for it. Nothing on this page limits, replaces, or requires you to use up before relying on your statutory rights as a UK consumer.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, if an item is faulty, not of satisfactory quality, or not as described, you have a short-term right to reject it for a full refund within the first 30 days of delivery.
If a fault appears within six months of delivery, it's presumed to have been present at delivery unless we can show otherwise, and you're entitled to a repair or replacement, or in some cases a refund.
In England and Wales, you generally have up to six years from delivery to bring a claim for goods that don't conform to the contract, under the Limitation Act 1980, though the burden of proving the fault existed at delivery increasingly sits with you as time passes.
You can choose either route. You're free to raise an issue with us as a warranty claim, a statutory claim under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, or both — whichever gives you the clearer or quicker remedy for your situation. For full detail on cancelling an order you've changed your mind about, and how refunds are processed, see our Cancellation Policy and Returns & Refunds Policy.
We review this Warranty Policy periodically to keep it accurate and aligned with current UK consumer law. When we make a material change, we update the "Last updated" date at the bottom of this page. The warranty terms in force on the date your order is delivered are the terms that apply to your purchase, even if this page is later updated.
