A clear, complete account of every payment method, timing rule and security safeguard behind an order with SLW Chesterfields — from the first swatch you choose to the day your handmade piece is delivered.
Ask us about paymentThis Payment Policy applies to every order placed with SLW Chesterfields — sofas, chairs, tables, home accessories, patchwork pieces, leathers, beanbags, footstools, and storage boxes — whether you order through our website, over the phone, or by email.
Most orders come from individual consumers, and the payment terms below apply in full. We also supply hotels, bars, pubs and restaurants furnishing their spaces; Section 10 sets out how those commercial orders are paid for.
SLW Chesterfields is owned and operated by Harlequin Chesterfield Sofa Ltd, registered in England and Wales (Company No. 15921383). Every piece is handmade to order at our workshop in Bury, Greater Manchester, and we currently deliver exclusively to addresses within the United Kingdom. Nothing in this policy limits or removes any right you hold under UK consumer law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
We accept every major debit and credit card scheme, both leading digital wallets, Klarna, PayPal, and direct bank transfer. Every method below is processed through a PCI DSS compliant payment gateway, and we never add a surcharge for choosing any one of them.
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, UnionPay and Diners Club are accepted for both debit and credit cards, processed through our secure card gateway with 3D Secure verification where your card issuer requires it.
Apple Pay and Google Pay let you check out using the card already saved on your device, without re-entering your card number. PayPal is accepted for customers who prefer to pay through their PayPal balance or linked account.
Bank transfer (Faster Payments/BACS) is available on request, particularly for larger bespoke orders and trade accounts. Our bank details are issued on your order invoice; please quote your order number as the payment reference.
All prices shown on our website are in pounds sterling (GBP) and include VAT at the prevailing UK rate, together with standard delivery to mainland UK. Any promotional offer or discount that applies to your order is reflected in the price shown before you pay.
We deliver throughout the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland. Additional delivery charges may apply to Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands, islands and other remote locations, and any such charge is shown to you clearly before you pay.
Because every sofa, chair and table we make is handmade to order, our payment timeline runs alongside the production of your furniture rather than a same-day dispatch.
Cleared payment — in full, or under an agreed instalment arrangement such as Klarna — is required before we begin cutting leather, building frames or upholstering your order. This protects both sides: it confirms your specification and secures your place in our workshop schedule.
Where any balance remains outstanding, it must be cleared before your furniture is released to our delivery carrier. We will not book or dispatch a delivery while any part of the order price remains unpaid.
Every card payment is processed through a payment gateway certified to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). Your full card number, expiry date and security code are transmitted directly to that gateway and are never stored on our own servers.
Our checkout uses TLS/SSL encryption to protect your payment details in transit. Where your card issuer participates, we also apply 3D Secure (Strong Customer Authentication) under UK payment services regulations, which may ask you to confirm the payment with your bank.
We and our payment providers may carry out standard verification checks, such as address verification and card security code matching, to help prevent fraudulent use of your card. These checks do not affect your credit rating.
Details of how we collect, use and safeguard your personal and payment information more broadly, including how long records are retained, are set out in our Privacy Policy.
Klarna is offered as an optional way to spread the cost of your order. Klarna is a separate, FCA-regulated credit provider, and using it means entering into a separate agreement with Klarna, not with SLW Chesterfields.
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| You submit your order | You provide your chosen specification and valid payment details. This is an offer to buy, not yet a completed contract. |
| We accept the order | The contract is only concluded once we have received your valid payment details and confirmed acceptance of the order by email. We are entitled to decline any order at our discretion, for example where a pricing error is identified. |
| Production begins | Once payment terms in Section 04 are met, your piece enters our workshop schedule and manufacturing begins. |
If your card is declined or a payment fails, your order will not be confirmed and production will not begin. You are welcome to retry with the same or a different payment method, or contact your card issuer or bank to ask why the payment was declined, since we do not have visibility of the reason on our side.
If you believe a payment was taken in error, please contact us first at slwchesterfields@icloud.com or 07947 700380 so we can investigate and resolve it directly — this is normally far quicker than raising a dispute with your card issuer, and helps us keep your order moving.
Although every effort is made to ensure that prices displayed on our website are accurate, occasional errors can occur. Where an order has been placed at an incorrect price, we reserve the right not to accept that order. If this happens, we will contact you before any goods are produced, and you will not be charged unless we have first confirmed the correct price with you and you agree to proceed.
We regularly furnish hotels, bars, pubs and restaurants. Commercial orders follow the same secure payment methods set out above, with two practical differences for business customers.
Trade and hospitality customers may request a formal VAT invoice against their order, and can pay by bank transfer against that invoice as an alternative to paying by card online. Please contact us to set this up before placing a commercial order.
As with consumer orders, cleared payment is required before production begins on a trade order, and any outstanding balance must be cleared before delivery or collection is arranged. Trade orders are covered by our one-year trade guarantee, as described in our Terms & Conditions.
Where a refund is due, we refund it using the same payment method you used to pay, unless you expressly agree with us otherwise. We do not charge any fee for processing a valid refund.
We aim to process eligible refunds without undue delay. Once we have issued a refund, the time it takes to appear in your account or on your statement depends on your bank, card issuer or payment provider, and is outside our control.
We may update this Payment Policy from time to time, for example to reflect a new payment method, a change in card scheme requirements, or a change in UK law. The version published on this page is always the current one, and the effective date at the top of this page will change whenever we make a material update. Payment terms that applied when you placed an order continue to apply to that order.
If anything about a card charge, a Klarna plan, a bank transfer, or a refund is unclear, we're glad to talk it through directly.
