SLW Chesterfields — Delivery & Installation Terms

From our workshop to your room, handled with care.

Operated by Harlequin Chesterfield Sofa Ltd, SLW Chesterfields hand-builds every sofa, chair, table, patchwork piece, footstool, beanbag, and storage box at our workshop in Bury before it travels to you. This page sets out exactly what our delivery service includes, how your furniture is protected in transit, who is responsible if something is damaged, and what happens on delivery day — in full, before you order.

Section 01

Where we deliver

UK mainland & Northern Ireland

We deliver every product category — sofas, chairs, tables, home accessories, patchwork furniture, leathers, beanbags, footstools, and storage boxes — throughout the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland. We do not currently ship outside the UK.

Remote and additional-charge areas

Additional delivery charges may apply to Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands, islands, and other remote locations, reflecting the extra distance and access involved in moving handmade furniture safely. We always confirm the exact delivery charge for your postcode before you place your order — never after.

Section 02

Room-of-choice delivery — what's included

Our standard delivery service is not a kerbside drop. A two-person delivery team carries your furniture into the room of your choice, subject to the access and parking conditions in Section 05.

Carried in and positioned

Included

Our team will carry your furniture up to a maximum of two flights of stairs and position it in your chosen room, at no extra charge, as part of every standard delivery.

Higher floors & lift access

By arrangement

Deliveries beyond two flights of stairs will require lift access or alternative arrangements made by you in advance — please tell us about your property before delivery is booked so we can plan accordingly.

Kerbside-only fallback

Access-dependent

If suitable parking or access isn't available on the day, our team may only be able to offer a kerbside drop, or may need to fail the delivery and charge a re-delivery fee for a future attempt — see Section 05.

Section 03

Assembly & fitting

Because our furniture is hand-built at our own workshop rather than mass-produced and flat-packed, most of the assembly work is already done before your delivery ever leaves Bury.

Sofas, chairs, patchwork & footstools

These arrive fully built — frame, filling, and leather all assembled at our workshop. Where a piece has removable legs or feet for safer transit, our delivery team fits these on-site as part of the standard delivery, at no extra cost. There is no flat-pack assembly for you to carry out.

Tables, beanbags & storage boxes

Tables are generally delivered fully assembled; where a base and top are transported separately for protection, our team fits them together on delivery. Beanbags and storage boxes require no assembly at all — they arrive ready to use.

Assembly is included, not an optional extra. Any fitting our delivery team carries out during a standard delivery — attaching legs, feet, or table components — is included in your delivery charge and is never billed separately.

Section 04

Packaging & protection in transit

How your furniture is protected

Sofas, chairs, and patchwork pieces are wrapped in protective transit blankets and film at our workshop, with corner and edge protection fitted to vulnerable points before loading. Tables travel with corner guards and surface protection. Beanbags, footstools, and storage boxes are boxed or bagged. Loose leather hides and swatches are rolled or boarded to prevent creasing.

What happens to packaging on delivery

Our delivery team removes transit wrapping when unpacking your furniture in your chosen room. If you're ordering an eligible standard item and think you may want to cancel, we recommend retaining the original packaging where reasonably possible, as this helps protect the furniture if it needs to be returned — see our Cancellation Policy. If you'd like packaging taken away on the day, please mention this when booking your delivery slot and we'll confirm whether it can be arranged.

Section 05

Access, parking & your responsibilities

All deliveries are subject to suitable access. A little preparation before delivery day helps us complete your room-of-choice delivery smoothly and avoids a failed-delivery charge.

Please arrange in advance

  • Parking for our delivery vehicle close to your property
  • Clear access through doorways, hallways, and stairwells
  • Lift access or an alternative plan for deliveries above two flights of stairs
  • Someone aged 18 or over present to receive and inspect the delivery

May affect your delivery

  • No available parking may mean a kerbside drop only, rather than room-of-choice delivery
  • Inadequate access may result in a failed delivery and a re-delivery charge for a future attempt
  • Deliveries above two flights of stairs without prior arrangement may not be possible on the day
Section 06

What happens on delivery day

We contact you

Once your furniture is complete and collected by our carriers, we'll be in touch to arrange your delivery.

Booking confirmation

Our carriers operate a 10 working day delivery service from the date of collection and will contact you around 3 days beforehand to book a slot, Monday to Friday during office hours.

Delivery & placement

Our team carries your furniture into the room of your choice, fits any legs or components, and removes transit wrapping.

Inspect before signing

Please inspect your furniture at the time of delivery wherever reasonably possible, as explained in Section 07.

Section 07

Damage at the point of delivery

Until your furniture is delivered into your possession, responsibility for its condition sits with us — this reflects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, not just our own goodwill.

Please inspect at the time of delivery

Wherever reasonably possible, check your furniture before our team leaves and record any visible damage, marks, or missing items on the delivery paperwork. This is the quickest way to resolve an issue, but it is a helpful step, not a legal requirement.

If you spot damage after the team has left

Contact us promptly with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photographs. Failure to record damage on the delivery paperwork at the time does not affect your statutory rights, and we will still investigate and resolve a genuine transit-damage report made shortly after delivery.

We take reasonable care with every delivery. Where furniture is damaged in transit or on handling before it reaches you, we will arrange a repair, replacement part, or replacement item at our cost. Nothing in this policy excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Section 08

Liability for damage after delivery

Once your furniture is in your possession

Once your furniture has been delivered into your possession (or that of a person you've nominated to receive it), responsibility for its ongoing care and condition transfers to you, in line with the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Accidental damage, spills, or misuse after this point are your responsibility, as explained in our Product Care & Maintenance Guide.

Manufacturing faults appearing later

This transfer of responsibility for day-to-day care does not affect your rights if a genuine manufacturing fault appears after delivery. Faults in materials or workmanship remain covered under our Warranty Policy and your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, for the periods explained on those pages.

Section 09

Trade & hospitality installation

We regularly supply hotels, bars, pubs, and restaurants with bespoke banquette seating and fitted leather furniture, which is typically delivered and installed on-site rather than dropped as a single item.

Individually agreed delivery & fitting

Delivery timing, access requirements, and any on-site installation or fitting for trade and hospitality projects are agreed in writing in your quotation or order confirmation before you commit, reflecting the scale and layout of each venue.

Same care, commercial scale

Whatever's agreed for your project, we apply the same standard of careful handling, protective packaging, and clear communication that we apply to every consumer delivery under this policy.
