SLW Chesterfields — Disclaimer

What to know before you rely on this website.

Operated by Harlequin Chesterfield Sofa Ltd, SLW Chesterfields hand-builds leather sofas, chairs, tables, home accessories, patchwork furniture, and leathers, and supplies footstools, beanbags and storage boxes across the United Kingdom. This Disclaimer explains the limits of the information on our website — including images, pricing, natural materials, and bespoke production — so you can shop with clear expectations, in addition to your full statutory rights.

Why we publish this page

This Disclaimer explains the practical limits of the information published on slwchesterfields.com — across sofas, chairs, tables, home accessories, the Harlequin Patchwork Collection, leathers, beanbags, footstools, and storage boxes — so that you understand what our website can and cannot guarantee before you rely on it to make a purchasing decision.

Who it applies to

This Disclaimer applies to every visitor to our website, whether you are an individual consumer or a hotel, bar, pub, or restaurant enquiring about a trade project. It applies alongside, and does not replace, our Terms & Conditions, our Cancellation Policy, and our Returns & Refunds Policy.

Nothing in this Disclaimer removes, limits, or attempts to exclude any right you hold as a consumer under UK law, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Where any wording on this page could be read as doing so, your statutory rights take precedence, as confirmed in Section 13.

Section 02

Accuracy of website content

We take care to keep every page on our website accurate and up to date, in line with the standards set out on our Product Description Standards page. Even so, a website is a snapshot, and the following limits apply.

Content can change

General notice

Descriptions, prices, lead times, and stock positions are correct at the time of publishing but may be updated without prior notice as our materials, workshop capacity, or costs change.

Genuine errors can occur

General notice

Despite our checks, an occasional typing, pricing, or listing error is possible. Section 06 explains exactly what happens if a genuine error affects your order.

What takes priority

General notice

If anything on this website conflicts with the written confirmation we send you for your specific order, the written order confirmation is what applies to your purchase.

Section 03

Images and colour representation

We photograph our furniture and leathers carefully, but screens, lighting, and photography all introduce some natural variation.

Screen and device variation

The exact leather tone or fabric colour you see depends on your device's screen, its brightness settings, and ambient lighting when you view it. We cannot guarantee that the colour on your screen will precisely match the colour of the leather delivered to you.

Sample and swatch photography

Leather swatch images on our Vintage, Pastel, Old English, and Antique range pages are genuine photographs of that leather range, but as a natural material, the specific hide used on your item will show its own individual grain and character, as explained further in Section 04.

Concept and hospitality imagery

Where our bar, pub, hotel, and restaurant pages use styled or concept imagery to illustrate a bespoke installation, that imagery is shown for inspiration only and does not represent a specific in-stock product available for immediate purchase.

Scale and proportion

Product photography is composed to show design and detail clearly and may not always convey exact scale. Always refer to the stated dimensions in Section 07, not the image alone, when judging whether a piece will fit your space.

Section 04

Natural leather and material variation

Every SLW Chesterfields piece is upholstered in genuine leather. Leather is a natural material, not a manufactured one, and it behaves accordingly.

Grain and markings

Natural marks, scarring, and grain variation are part of genuine hide, not a manufacturing defect, and are especially characteristic of our Vintage and Antique ranges.

Tone consistency

No two hides are identical. Small tonal differences between panels on the same piece, or between your item and our sample photography, are a normal feature of real leather.

Wear and patina

Leather develops a patina with age and use. This is a natural characteristic of the material, not a fault, and forms part of the appeal of a genuine leather Chesterfield.

Care requirements

Leather should be kept away from direct heat and sharp objects and cared for with appropriate leather products. Damage from inappropriate cleaning products or excessive heat is not covered as a manufacturing fault.

This is a disclosure, not a limitation of your rights: natural leather variation is not a quality defect under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. However, if your item is genuinely faulty, not of satisfactory quality, or not as described, your rights under Section 08 of our Cancellation Policy apply in full.

Section 05

Bespoke and Patchwork items

The Harlequin Patchwork Collection, and any item ordered in a custom leather colour, panel combination, or stitching style, is built to your individual specification.

No two pieces are identical

Bespoke

Because each Patchwork or custom-leather piece is individually hand-cut and hand-built, small variations in panel placement, stitching, and leather tone between your delivered piece and the example shown online are expected and are part of handmade construction, not a fault.

Lead times are estimates

Bespoke

Production and delivery lead times quoted for bespoke pieces are our genuine best estimate at the time of order, based on workshop capacity, but are not a guaranteed delivery date. We will keep you informed if a lead time changes.

This disclosure sits alongside, and does not replace, the cancellation terms for bespoke and made-to-order goods set out in Section 03 of our Cancellation Policy.

Section 06

Pricing, availability and errors

Prices shown in pounds sterling

All prices on our website are shown in GBP (£) and are inclusive of VAT where applicable. Delivery costs are shown separately and confirmed before you complete your order.

If a genuine pricing or listing error occurs

If we discover a genuine error in a price or description after you've placed an order — for example, a mispriced item — we will contact you before proceeding, and you will have the choice to continue at the correct price or cancel with a full refund. We will never simply charge you a higher price without your agreement.

Section 07

Dimensions and space planning

We list height, width, depth, and seat height in centimetres for every furniture item wherever we can. Please measure your space, doorways, staircases, and access routes carefully before ordering.

Access responsibility: our larger sofas and Chesterfield pieces are substantial items of furniture. It is the customer's responsibility to check that a piece can be delivered into the intended room, including through doorways, hallways, and staircases, before ordering. Please contact us at slwchesterfields@icloud.com if you are unsure and we will help you check dimensions against your space.

Section 08

Fire safety and regulatory compliance

All of our upholstered furniture — sofas, chairs, footstools, and beanbags — is manufactured to comply with the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, as amended in 1989, 1993 and 2010, and carries the required permanent fire-safety labelling on delivery.

Labels must not be removed

Please do not remove the permanent fire-safety label fitted to your upholstered item. It is your record, and ours, that the item meets the required ignitability standards.

Custom orders included

This compliance applies to every upholstered item we sell, including bespoke Patchwork pieces and custom-leather orders, regardless of the colour, panel combination, or stitching chosen.

Section 09

Trade and hospitality projects

We regularly supply hotels, bars, pubs, and restaurants with bespoke banquette seating and fitted leather furniture.

Individually quoted, not listed

Because these projects are typically made-to-measure and installed on-site, final specification and pricing are confirmed in a written quotation rather than shown as a fixed website listing price. The website content for hospitality projects is illustrative of what we can build.

Statutory consumer rights and businesses

As explained in Section 07 of our Cancellation Policy, statutory consumer cancellation rights apply to individuals, not to purchases made by a business, trade, craft, or profession. Trade orders are governed by the terms in your written quotation.

Section 11

Intellectual property

The text, product photography, collection names (including Cambridgeshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, and Gloucestershire), the Harlequin Patchwork Collection name, and the SLW Chesterfields branding on this website belong to Harlequin Chesterfield Sofa Ltd, or are used with permission. You may not copy, reproduce, or reuse this content for commercial purposes without our prior written consent.

Section 12

Limitation of liability

We want this section to be genuinely clear rather than a wall of legal caution, so here is what it means in plain terms.

What we're responsible for

We are responsible for the goods and services we supply being of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described, and for foreseeable loss or damage that results from our failure to meet those standards or from our negligence.

What we don't exclude

Nothing in this Disclaimer excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under UK law.

General website use: to the extent permitted by law, we do not accept liability for any loss arising from reliance on general, non-order-specific website content — such as browsing the site for inspiration — where that loss is not connected to a fault in goods or services you have actually purchased from us.

Section 13

Your statutory rights are not affected

Consumer Rights Act 2015

You are entitled to goods that are of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described, with a short-term right to reject faulty goods and rights to repair, replacement, price reduction, or refund thereafter, as set out in Section 08 of our Cancellation Policy.

Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013

Where you are a consumer buying a standard, ready-made item, you have a 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right, as explained in full in our Cancellation Policy.

Nothing in this Disclaimer, or anywhere else on our website, is intended to reduce, exclude, or limit these or any other statutory rights you hold as a UK consumer. If any wording anywhere on our site appears to conflict with your statutory rights, your statutory rights apply.

Section 14

Governing law and jurisdiction

This Disclaimer, and your use of our website, is governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute relating to this Disclaimer or your use of our website will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections that apply in your country of residence within the UK.

Section 15

Changes to this disclaimer

We review this Disclaimer periodically to keep it accurate and aligned with current UK law and our own products. When we make a material change, we update the "Last updated" date at the bottom of this page. The version in force at the time you use our website is the version that applies.
